The Rumble Fish 2 is a game developed by japanese developer Dimps, which also created very well known games like the DragonBall Z Budokai series, or co-developed Street Fighter IV and Soul Calibur VI.
As the previous game in the series, The Rumble Fish 2 is using Dimps’ unique animation technique that created fluid animations and great visuals. This version has more characters, new game mechanics and rebalanced for greater playability. It’s a very respected game which was never released outside of arcades, only released for the SEGA/Sammy Atomiswave and Taito NesicaXLive.
We worked from the NesicaXLive arcade version to convert to modern consoles and PC, which, apart from the conversion itself, requires an extensive development to make it console and PC friendly. Several key features were added that were not present in the original game:
- Pause and Main menus. Allow selecting game modes and configure game settings, creating multiplayer lobbies, watching character art, etc…
- Widescreen. Upgrade the game from the original 4:3 ratio to modern 16:9. This is selectable by the user, so if they prefer, they can use the original 4:3 battle area screen size.
- Online Matches. Using rollback netcode for minimal latency between players, which is extremely important for fighting games. You can do both auto-matchmaking or creating a lobby with up to 3 friends and play mini-tournaments with spectator.
- Training Mode. Let players train against CPU with predefined behavior. It also allows to record your own moves and play them back in the opponent to train yourself.
- Match Recording. Allows to record your VS matches (both online and offline), and playback them later to review best moments, learn techniques, etc…
- Gallery. Watch the original game art, and the animated intro for the PS2 version of The Rumble Fish 1.
- Nintendo Switch 2 Exclusive. Battle Mode. Play 3 vs 3 matches with the newly added Battle Mode both in online and offline vs matches.
